King Charles is heading to the United States to celebrate July 4 (okay then), and apparently Prince William has big plans for his dad being out of town. Specifically in the form of a power play.

A senior royal source tells Rob Shuter that “This is one of the most consequential foreign tours of [King Charles’s] reign. For a few days, London isn’t the story, and that creates opportunity. He’s using the window to convene key figures privately. These aren’t routine briefings; they’re strategic, future-facing conversations with real weight. And none of it is designed for public consumption.”

Details remain vague and things are being handled with “discretion,” but the source says “Make no mistake, decisions are being shaped. Since the King’s diagnosis, there’s been a noticeable acceleration. William isn’t just supporting the institution anymore; he’s actively steering parts of it. He’s not waiting for the crown to define his authority. He’s building that authority now, piece by piece, behind closed doors.”

While King Charles remains “firmly on the throne,” apparently “Even the most seasoned staffers have clocked the change” and “Meetings are sharper. Decisions are faster. William is far more hands-on, and far more in command. William is engineering the monarchy’s next chapter at home.”

To put it simply? “The transition from heir to leader is no longer theoretical; it’s underway.”

Take all of this with a grain of salt since King Charles and Prince William certainly haven’t revealed any details about their power sharing plans, but it definitely seems like things are…escalating at the palace.
